LRTweetup is proud to announce:
Little Rock Twestival 2009
benefiting

RORA is an amazing organization that partners with pediatricians and clinics statewide to raise awareness about early childhood literacy and provide resources to families to encourage reading in the home. This cause is crucial to the well being of Arkansas’ children and the need is immense – just take a look:
- The Arkansas Department of Education estimates that 50% of our children are not prepared with the skills they need to succeed in kindergarten.
- It is estimated that 56% of all adults read at only a fourth-grade level or below. In some Arkansas communities, that figure reaches as high as 78%!
- Recent national studies have shown that 60% of families in poverty have no books in the home, and children in poverty are read to for an average of only 25 hours from birth to age 5.
Reach Out and Read Arkansas currently has 4 clinics that have applied for acceptance into the program, but RORA is unable to provide the resources to start distributing books in these clinics. We plan to change that, and we need your help!
LRTweetup will be hosting a fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10 to raise money and collect books for Reach Out and Read Arkansas. The cost is $10 and at least 1 book that is appropriate for children under age 5. We call it “10 Bucks and a Book!” You can purchase your tickets online. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Reach Out and Read Arkansas, so please buy your tickets today and help us spread the word!
